Other Sports don't make kids play like adults, so why does tennis?

The game of tennis has changed for kids 10 and under!  10 and Under Tennis will be designed around the same concepts as other youth sports such as soccer, baseball and basketball, all of which use equipment and field/court sizes scaled to the size of young children.  The scaled-down equipment and small playing fields allow kids to achieve success the first time out-and sustain that success as they continue to develop and refine their skills.

With kids-sized equipment and courts, and lower-bouncing and slower-moving balls, 10 and Under Tennis, using the QuickStart Tennis play format, allows kids to rally and play right from the start.  This develops confidence since kids can rally successfully with appropriate swing patterns, grips and better racquet control.  Kids can cover the entire court and are able to develop tactical and technical skills better and sooner.  In addition, tennis becomes more fun for the kids!

The Rye Racquet Club is excited to join the USTA’s effort in the growth and development of 10 and Under Tennis using the QuickStart Tennis Format.  The format will help your child learn to play the game in a friendly format.  By using the proper sized equipment, court size, balls and scoring your child will learn the game correctly and will progress to the larger court as he/she develops the necessary skills.

An important component of your child’s tennis development is match play combined with his/her weekly clinic.  As many of you know, our existing match play program is for low intermediate – tournament level players.  The QuickStart format will now enable children of all ages/levels to play matches in a fun and friendly environment!  RRC will be adding match play events for beginners and advanced beginners….we will notify you when we have the dates/times.

We look forward to developing your child’s tennis and helping them love this lifetime sport!
